MARS SCENARIO VERSION 1.0 Aug 2000
--------------------------------------------------------------

Adapted from the Micrioprose Fantastic Worlds Scenario of the same name.

3-D Effect ! ...
Linked Maps ! ...
New Terrain ! ...
New Units ! ...
Tunnels ! ...
Underground Cities ! ...

This Scenario offers - 4 Maps and 2 Worlds
 - Earth Surface, Earth Deep Ocean, Mars Surface and Mars Underworld
with each pair in synch in order to attempt create a 3-D effect.

In addition to most of the units from the Microprose Mars scenario,
there are new units capable of exploring the various levels of the
two planets featured.

Hide your Submarines with their cargo of deadly missiles
in Earth's Deep Ocean or in the Mars undersea
and only rise to the surface to wreak havoc on the enemy !

Tunnel under Enemy fortifications on MArs to undermine their defensive perimeter
and move troops covertly under enemy territory.

Build underground cities in Tunnels under the Martian surface
(safe from Meteorite strikes and Sandstorms) !

Play as the Americans, Australians, Brazilians, Martians or the Ukranians

Don't play as the 3rd World Alliance or the United-Africans (U.N.I.T.A.).

(Well, in fact you can if you want to, but you'll have to wait around for
the colonies on Mars to send an expeditioary force back to Earth for some
real action to take place.)

Many units can only be buit on Mars and many others only on Earth.

The Civilopedia contains details of all Units.

INSTALLATION DETAILS
--------------------

GENERAL
-------

Create a directory called MARS under you Test of Time directory.

Copy all the text files into that.

SOUNDS
------

Create a sub-directory under the MARS directoy that is called "Sound".

Copy all the Sound files (*.wav) that come with the scenario into that.

The Scenario also used a number ofthe Fantasy and Sci-Fi sounds, but these cannot be found by the program unless they are in the "MARS" Sound Subdirectory, or the "Original" Sound Subdirectory, or the uppermost Sound Subdirectory immediately underneath the Test-of-Time Directory. (This is the best place to put them as from here they can be accessed by any Test of Time Game or Scenario. As well, then you can move them here (rather than copy them) and save on space.)

You will therefore need to copy (or move) the following Sound files into one of those
directories mentioned above (if they are not already there).

AENEAC.wav

SPRITES (UNIT ANIMATIONS)
-------------------------

If you want to run the Scenario with Unit Animations on ....

Copy the following sprites from the various directories named below into you MARS directory.

Copy the following sprites asis into your MARS Scenario Directory / Folder :

Copy from Sci-Fi asis :

Unit00
Unit01
Unit06
Unit11
Unit12
Unit14
Unit21
Unit32
Unit33
Unit35
Unit36
Unit37
Unit38
Unit39
Unit44
Unit46
Unit49
Unit50
Unit51

Copy from ExtendedOriginal asis :

Unit08
Unit19 (Mech Inf.)
Unit41 (Sub)
Unit42 (Carrier)
Unit63 (Cyborg)
Unit66

COPY THE FOLLOWING SPRITES FROM THE directory indicated into a "holding" area
(e.g. C:\TEMP ) and then Rename them and move them to your MARS directory

Copy from Sci-Fi - Rename :

Unit07 to Unit80
Unit42 to Unit67

Copy from Original - Rename :

ORIGINAL UNIT MARS SCEN UNIT
Mech Inf. - Unit14 to Unit57 - Mech Inf.
Helicopter - Unit29 to Unit64 - Helicopter
Cruiser - Unit38 to Unit69 - Destroyer
AEGIS Csr - Unit39 to Unit72 - AEGIS Cruiser
Riflemen - Unit11 to Unit74 - Infantry
Marines - Unit12 to Unit75 - Marines
Armor - Unit22 to Unit76 - Armor
Howitzer - Unit26 to Unit77 - Howitzer
Freight - Unit49 to Unit78 - Heavy Freight

You will note that I use the Cruiser graphic and animation for the "Destroyer"
in this scenario rather than the larger Original Game Destroyer, this is because
"Destroyers are small escort ships that serve a variety of useful functions.
These light, fast vessels were used extensively in World War II to provide air
and sea cover for carrier groups." It seemed a bit silly to me that the smaller
ship had a bigger graphic. (And anyway by doing this it also makes it more
of a challenge therefore to identify what an enemy vessel is).

However - it may be easier if you do not have the Test-of-Time patch version 1.1
to simply run this scenario with the Unit animations "Off".

IMPROVEMENTS
------------

If you want the City Improvements and Wonders to appear correctly you will
need to do the following.

Move all the Bitmap images of the form 99imp.bmp (that is, 01imp.bmp to 67imp.bmp)
in or "Original" directory (folder) to a backup location (or zip them up)
EXCEPT for the following files ( leave these in your "Original" directory (folder) )

:

12imp.bmp
28imp.bmp
30imp.bmp
31imp.bmp
33imp.bmp
34imp.bmp
35imp.bmp

You do not need to do this, however if you don't the civilopedia won't
look completely right, but that doesn't matter.
